Celebrity chefs to host gala dinner at Liverpool Food & Drink Festival

TV chef Simon Rimmer is among the big names heading to Liverpool next month to work with students in hosting a gala dinner as part of the city’s Business of Food & Drink Festival.

Taking place in the Grade I listed Anglican Cathedral, the largest in the UK, Rimmer will present the event alongside John Williams, executive chef at The Ritz.

The dinner is set to provide the climax to the four-day Business of Food & Drink Festival, which is designed to highlight the importance of the hospitality sector and those working in chefs jobs throughout the UK.

The event is part of the larger International Festival for Business (IFB) 2014, with the 11th July dinner seeing young students and chefs preparing and cooking a five course meal overseen by various professional chefs including Paul Askew, food and beverage director at London Carriage Works Restaurant and Hope Street Hotel and chef patron at the Art School Restaurant.

Announcing the details, Askew said: “The gala dinner promises to be an unmissable event and the perfect culmination to the Business of Food & Drink Week.

“It’s a real chance for the industry to come out in force and support young regional talent – we’re delighted to have such a respected chef as John on board, and to have a local lad like Simon as a host, a real coup. The scale of the event demonstrates just how the region is investing in the future by giving local students the chance to show off their remarkable skill levels.”

Other events at the festival include the Battle of the North West competition, which will see students from various Merseyside colleges creating four course meals at St George’s Hall, and the British Chefs Festival dinner where 14 senior chefs must cook a banquet for 112 guests.
