Michelin chef for 10 in 8 venture

Food and beverages at the Macdonald Bear Hotel will be run by the former head chef of the Michelin-starred Lords of the Manor.

Matt Weedon joins the Bear at Woodstock as executive chef and will be in charge of food and drink at the 52-bedroom 13th-century Oxfordshire coaching inn. The Bear is the latest venture from the 10 in 8 Fine Dining Group.

As well as overseeing room service, breakfast, brunch, afternoon tea and the bar, he will take responsibility for the main restaurant serving "simple, good food" and a 24-seat fine dining restaurant.

Weedon has held a number of high profile catering jobs and has worked with 10 in 8 chief executive Alan Murchison previously, as head chef at L'Ortolan in Berkshire.

The chef held a Michelin star for four consecutive years at Lords of the Manor, and for a year at Glenapp Castle in Scotland.

Weedon said: "After five years at Lords of the Manor, it was time for a change and there aren't many people in the industry I would like to work with again. Alan is so enthusiastic and positive, he's a great person to be around and I'm really excited about this opportunity."
